Chronic pain and illness affect the whole family in many ways. It can be isolating when well-meaning friends or family “don’t get it”. We invite you to join us once a month to connect with people like you. This welcoming and supportive group is a place to be heard and ask questions. Find out how other people with similar issues have learned to cope. What has helped them the most? Have you found something that helps you cope or provides relief? We would love to hear about it!
This group is open to anyone ages 18+ who is living with chronic pain or illness. Family members are welcome to attend even if the person with pain is not yet ready or able. This group meets on the Saturday of each month from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. Register here
I have never attended a group before…
Visiting a support group can be intimidating. Past group members would like you to know that this is an accepting space, where your needs and pain are respected. You are welcome to share at any level you feel comfortable. We like to say the ugliest diseases can form the most beautiful friendships because the bond of talking to others that understand what you’re going through firsthand can form unique connections and genuine validation/understanding.
Facilitators of this group would like you to know we are honored to be a part of this amazing group of people who consistently come together to support each other. We share laughter as well as the tough stuff. Please let us know if you have any questions. You are invited to share this information with anyone you feel may be interested.
What should I expect?
We start all groups with an opening round. This is a brief introduction including your name and anything you would like to share about your pain journey. This can be as little or as much as you want to share. The facilitator will then offer a group discussion topic or offer ways to expand on questions the group participants have for each other. The facilitator manages the group dynamic to be helpful and supportive.
Who can attend?
We invite anyone living with chronic pain or illness, including family members and significant others. No diagnosis is required. You do not need to live in San Antonio to participate.
